Lorissa MacAllister, PhD, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, is the founder of Enviah, an evidence-based consulting firm using a people-centered approach that is both multidimensional and multidisciplinary. Enviah creates environments where people thrive, and helps healthcare providers more effectively accomplish their mission. Dr.MacAllister works to integrate people, technology, systems, and space, ensuring that healthcare environments are driven by health and care. She has blended her healthcare and architectural expertise to pioneer a unique approach to design in the healthcare industry. She has led operational assessments, performed sustainable operations integration, and created master plans for some of the largest healthcare systems in the country. As a founding member of the Green Guide for Healthcare (GGHC) initiative, Lorissa helped develop the global guidelines now known as LEED for healthcare. She became Michigan’s second LEED-certified architect. As a thought leader in her field, Dr. MacAllister serves on many national boards, working to standardize the process of creating environments for health. She also serves as senior fellow and healing spaces specialist at the Samueli Institute, working to develop evidence-based definitions and methods to create and support healing environments. Dr. MacAllister has a B.S. in medical social work from the University of Vermont and an MA in architecture from the University of Michigan. She has her doctorate in architecture with a concentration in Evidence-Based Design from Georgia Tech.
