Dr. Ray Pentecost is a Professor holding joint appointments in the College of Architecture at Texas Tech University and in the Graduate School of Biological Sciences at the TTU Health Sciences Center, both located in Lubbock, TX. Ray is also the President of Design and Health, LLC in Norfolk, VA. He is a registered Architect, Board Certified in the healthcare architecture specialty. He has been named a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and the American College of Healthcare Architects (FACHA). He is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), a former Licensed Long Term Care Administrator, and an Ordained Minister.
Ray is the Immediate Past President of the International Academy for Design and Health (IADH) based in Stockholm and a two-time Past President of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. He is currently a member of the Board of Regents for the ACHA.
In 2012 Ray was one of only eight individuals named to Healthcare Design Magazine’s list of The Most Influential People in Healthcare Design.
Ray is a frequent speaker both across the United States and internationally, including venues in Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, Finland, Guatemala, Ireland, Malaysia, Qatar, Scotland, Singapore, and South Africa. Topics generally focus on healthcare market forces, design, research and health.
Ray received Bachelor of Arts (’75) and Bachelor of Architecture (’77) degrees from the Rice University, School of Architecture, and Master of Public Health (’79) and Doctor of Public Health (‘82) degrees from the University of Texas, School of Public Health in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX.
