Freddy L. Collier Jr. is currently serving Mayor Frank G. Jackson as the Director of the Cleveland City Planning Commission. Prior to joining the Cleveland Planning Commission, Freddy worked for Fifth Third Bank of Northeast Ohio and was responsible for facilitating residents and businesses with banking services in some of Cleveland’s most challenged communities. Freddy Collier Jr. is a 1992 graduate of Cleveland Benedictine High School. He holds a B.A. in Urban Studies with an emphasis in urban planning and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Freddy works with a team of professional planners whose focus is to enlist various city departments, community stakeholders, and agencies to promote and implement planning initiatives throughout the City of Cleveland, Cuyahoga County and Northeast Ohio.
•Since starting his career with the City Planning Commission in 1999 Freddy has led several citywide initiatives. He is the project manager of the Connecting Cleveland 2020 Citywide Plan which is the City of Cleveland’s current adopted masterplan designed to guide the development direction of the City of Cleveland. In addition to the City of Cleveland’s Comprehensive Plan, he and his colleagues have been focused on the sustainable reuse of vacant land as a way of creating healthy and sustainable neighborhoods in Cleveland.
•Freddy and his team, are responsible for securing $270,000.00 in grant resources over the past year to advance Mayor Jackson’s vision of creating a Healthy City. Freddy has been a leader in Northeast Ohio in promoting the connections between Planning and Health outcomes in communities. He was recently invited to speak to Institute of Medicine’s Roundtable on Population Health in Washington D.C. The organization seeks input from non-health sectors whose work impacts the public’s health.
Freddy serves as a key lead on the Cuyahoga County Place Matters Team which is a local arm of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies Health Policy Institute (Washington D.C.). The primary role of the Cuyahoga Place Matters Team is to influence health outcomes in communities by informing policy makers and stakeholders about the social, economic, and environmental conditions that influence the health outcomes of residents.
