William H. Dean is the Chief Executive Officer, M.C. Dean, Inc., the nation’s leading electrical design-build and systems integration firm serving complex, mission-critical facilities. M.C. Dean’s capabilities include electrical, electronic security, telecommunications, life - safety, instrumentation and control, and command and control systems. With a staff of almost 3,000, the firm has a reputation for excellence and expertise resultant from its large contingent of engineers and technicians, many of whom are recognized industry experts. M.C. Dean has a global presence with over 30 offices worldwide and has performed work on five continents and over 40 countries. Under Mr. Dean’s leadership, M.C. Dean has grown twentyfold in annual revenues. In 1999 Mr. Dean and several key colleagues created the firm’s wholly owned subsidiary OpenBand LLC, a competitive local exchange carrier that delivers voice, data, and video services to several thousand residents and businesses in Virginia (after Verizon, the largest FTTH operator in the state) and a professional services group that is one of the predominant providers of voice and data infrastructure engineering and delivery of IP satellite services to support U.S. military operations and diplomatic missions in Western Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East, and North Africa. In 2003 the firm entered the process and automation markets through its first business purchase of CIM Associates. Today this business unit is recognized as an expert in design, engineering, and programming for a PLC-based controllers, SCADA systems, robotics, electronic eye systems, and applications in homeland security and detention and factory automation systems. Mr. Dean is actively involved in numerous industry organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Design-Build Institute of America, the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI), and the American Society of Industrial Security. He also serves on the Board of the Washington Airports Task Force. Passionate about technical education, workforce development, and entrepreneurship, he also served as chairman of the board for the D.C. Workforce Investment Council and presently holds a board position with the D.C. Apprenticeship Council. Mr. Dean holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from NC State University and is an advocate for design-build and performance-based project delivery methods and contracting.
