Barbara Edson RN, MBA, MHA

Vice President, Clinical Quality, Health Research & Educational Trust (HRET)

Ms. Edson is a VP, Clinical Quality at Health Research and Educational Trust (HRET) an affiliate of the American Hospital Association. She serves in a leadership role for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Engaging Partners in Infection Prevention and Control in Acute Care Hospitals and Long Term Acute Care Hospitals project. Additionally, she serves in a leadership role for several of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) funded projects; TeamSTEPPS National Implementation, the AHRQ Safety Program for LTC: CAUTI the AHRQ’s Safety Program for Ambulatory Surgery and the AHRQ Safety Program for ICUs: CLABSI & CAUTI. Ms. Edson had extensive experience in pediatric nursing and in hospital leadership positions and prior to coming to HRET to lead national programs, Ms. Edson lead statewide projects and programs to improve safety and quality. She is a Master TeamSTEPPS trainer and has been a state Baldrige examiner. She has a BSN from Marquette University, an MBA/MHA from Pfeiffer University, and has completed Patient Safety Officer training at IHI and obtained Just Culture Certification from Outcome Engenuity. She has co-authored several articles on safety, quality and infection prevention. Ms. Edson serves on the National Patient Safety Board of Governors. Ms. Edson works to combine her interest in quality, safety and organizational culture to improve patient outcomes.
