Carl Beers, Principal and Director of Healthcare for the Southeast at HKS, has provided strong team leadership for over 30 years. With extensive experience in various project types, his focus lies in Health, Long-Term Care, and Higher Education/Research facilities. Carl's healthcare expertise encompasses 27 major hospitals and numerous related health facilities, catering to clients such as community and academic medical centers, public health systems, colleges, and universities. Recognized as an authority in healthcare programming, planning, design, and delivery, Carl has conducted seminars, moderated workshops, and presented on health facility design and project delivery. Carl led the design team through the Lee Health Gulf Coast expansion, both prior to and during the COVID pandemic, completing it before the devastating 2022 hurricane season in Fort Myers, Florida. Other noteworthy projects under Carl's guidance include the new patient tower at Orlando Regional Medical Center, a transformative 350,000 sq ft, 245-bed facility that is reshaping healthcare for the Orlando Health system. Focusing on patient needs, the tower harmonizes design, technology, and care specialists. Additionally, Carl has spearheaded the development of the Florida Hospital for Women, a pioneering 12-story hospital designed to cater to women at every stage of life, making it the first of its kind in Central Florida. At HKS Health, Carl leads design efforts to achieve exceptional program and aesthetic performance. He firmly believes that buildings dedicated to quality, detail, and sustainability possess a unique ability to inspire and facilitate healing. With a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas, Carl has pursued additional coursework at Oxford, England, and Florence, Italy. He currently imparts his knowledge through a health-focused seminar/studio class for the University of Central Florida Architecture Program. As a registered architect, Carl contributes his architectural expertise and volunteers his time to various civic organizations, notably serving as a house leader for Habitat for Humanity.
