Douglas Childs, AIA, FACHA, leads TACTICS STUDIO, a healthcare planning and design firm. With 25 years of leadership in the healthcare industry, his breadth of experience ranges from strategic planning, campus and hospital master planning, hospital expansions, renovations, community clinics, medical office buildings, wellness, as well as OSHPD. Doug has been involved in almost every clinical area, including, cancer treatment, emergency, imaging, intensive care, lab, labor and delivery, patient rooms, surgery, sterile processing, children’s hospitals, long-term care, physical therapy, and ambulatory care.

Other areas of expertise include the application of Lean thinking, prefabricated construction, process improvement, simulation modeling, and investigation into the future of healthcare including presentations on “Trends in Outpatient Care – Facilities for the Future” to a number of healthcare systems.
Inspired by the idea of continuous improvement, he finds three ideas particularly motivating: bringing greater value to clients; strategic thinking to bring about innovative solutions; and the promotion of “next practices” - best practice ideas that will contribute to making healthcare more affordable, safer, and accessible.

Doug is a Board Certified healthcare architect through the American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA), served for six years on the Board of Regents and was recognized as a Fellow by ACHA. He chairs the ACHA Next Practices Committee, and co-chairs the ACHA/CCAIA California Health Facilities Forum.

Doug has been a principal and firm leader for 18 years, and received a Presidential Citation from the American Institute of Architects California Council (AIACC) in 2011.
