Jamie Schnick P.E.

Sr Electrical Engineer, HCAI/OSHPD – Department of Health Care Access and Information/Office of Statewide Hospital Planning

Jamie is a Senior Electrical Engineer with California’s Department of Health Care Access and Information in the Office of State Hospital Planning and Development (HCAI/OSHPD). As a member of OSHPD’s Building Standards Unit (BSU) Jamie is the technical lead for the electrical discipline. As such he develops and maintains electrical codes and standards for California health care facilities. The BSU unit is commissioned to maintain and update existing codes and standards based on new legislation and the latest engineering standards, studies, and advancement.
Prior to joining OSHPD Jamie spent the 1st 30 years of his career providing electrical consulting services, including the electrical design for several state-of-the-art Health Care Facilities, including: Camp Pendleton Replacement Hospital, UCSD’s Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center and Jacobs Medical Center, Scripps Prebys Cardiovascular Institute, and the Sharp Chula Vista Ocean View Tower.
Jamie is a also a member of the Hospital Building Safety Board Energy Conservation and Management Committee. Jamie worked with other committee members and subject matter experts to develop the 2021 Microgrids for Health Care Facilities white paper. He is in the process of making code revisions to facilitate the implementation of Health Care Microgrids to help with resilience, energy costs savings and sustainability at California health care facilities. He has recently submitted proposed code changes and has worked on PIN 74 which provides the policy for the implementation of alternate sources of power to maintain safe temperatures, maintain availability of life-saving equipment, and maintain oxygen-generating devices for Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) buildings as mandated by Assembly Bill 2511 (Chapter 788, Statutes of 2022).
