Field Director, The Joint Commission

Tim Markijohn is the Field Director for the Life Safety Code Surveyors at The Joint Commission. In this role, he oversees half (approximately 40) of the surveyors who specialize in surveying the Joint Commission’s life safety, environment of care, and emergency management standards. Tim has been at the director level in healthcare for more than a decade for a 500 bed academic healthcare system in Pennsylvania, 800 bed trauma center and children’s hospital in South Florida, 200 bed community hospital in North Carolina, and most recently with 5 hospital academic healthcare system in Columbia Missouri. He has experience managing Healthcare Engineering, Design\Construction, Environmental Services, and Clinical Engineering departments. Tim has earned engineering undergraduate degrees from The Pennsylvania State University, The Broward College, and The University of Central Florida. He has also earned Master’s Degrees, in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Tim is a current and active member of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE). Tim has earned designations as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) from the American Hospital Association and Certified Healthcare Engineer (CHE) from the North Carolina Healthcare Engineer’s Association. Tim is a Certified Yellow Belt. With this designation, he supports The Joint Commission’s activities associated with establishing and sustaining a Robust Process Improvement® (RPI®) culture. As a Certified Yellow Belt, he is trained in the foundational concepts and tools of problem solving and makes improvements to better meet customer expectations and organization objectives.
